The 2nd International Forest City Conference

The 2nd International Forest City Conference was held on 6 and 7 April 2021, in Nanjing, China, sponsored by the National Forestry and Grassland Administration of China (NFGA), Nanjing Municipal People’s Government and International Bamboo and Rattan Organisation (INBAR) and organized by Nanjing Municipal Greening and Landscape Bureau, International Centre for Bamboo and Rattan (ICBR) and the Urban Forest Research Center of NFGA.

This conference will further facilitate dialogues on new concepts, models and practices that have emerged in the changing landscape of forest city development, promote healthy progress of forest city building and urbanization in developing countries, and contribute to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The 2nd IFCC is part of the 2021 national program of Focus on Forests. Themed on forest city and urban life, the conference provided the platform for discussions on the philosophy and practice of forest city building, Chinese and European solutions on developing urban forests for green urbanization, urban forests and resident welfare, bamboo landscapes in forest cities, and the role bamboo and rattan play in urban forests for carbon neutrality.

Our CLEARING HOUSE session took place on April 6th. The topic of this event was how to use urban forest and trees to support the green urbanization accross China and Europe. There were 18 speakers that introduce our newest research on Urban trees and the benefits they provided, such as reducing the pollutants, cooling heat waves, save water, soil restoration and provide recreation space for citizens.

At the end of this event, the local-design and co-learning workshop was organized to discuss the UF-NSB. This event was virtual and physical meeting. Our European partners join the meeting by ZOOM and our Chinese partners attend the meeting in Nanjing City. It was broadcast live, accessible for a public interested in UF-NBS. An audience of more than 2000 people watched the live stream. And more than 80 participants attended the physical meeting in Nanjing citiy, China.
